Ukraine: Yulia Tymoshenko sentenced to seven years in prison

KIEV, Ukraine – On Tuesday Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison for abuse of office.

The former head of the government was convicted of violating legal procedures when signing a contract for import of natural gas signed in 2009 with Russia.

Tymoshenko denounced the trial for political reasons to prevent her from standing for election.
