Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, jailed for abuse of power, intends to seize the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the consideration of her appeal has been postponed by Ukrainian justice, said her lawyer Sergei Vlasenko on Tuesday.
“We consider the final decision (the Supreme Court specializes in civil and criminal cases to examine the cassation of Tymoshenko – ed) and plan to enter the ECHR,” said M.Vlasenko.
The Supreme Court specializes in civil and criminal cases today postponed consideration of the appeal of Ms. Tymoshenko to June 26, alleging the absence of the latter and the need to consider additional information.
Defense of the former Prime Minister believes that the Ukrainian authorities are trying to drag out the trial length.
Imprisoned since August 2011, Tymoshenko was sentenced in October to seven years in prison for having signed in 2009 with Russia gas agreements deemed disadvantageous to the country when she was prime minister. A new scandal was triggered by reports that she had been abused in prison. The opponent is also undergoing a second trial for embezzlement and tax evasion.
The EU and the U.S. terms of politically motivated criminal prosecutions of Tymoshenko. The Ukrainian authorities deny the accusations about them.
