Representatives of the Quartet of international mediators for the Middle East (United States, Russia, UN, EU) will negotiate with the Israeli authorities and Palestinian officials in Jerusalem on November 14, announced the spokesman for the State Department Victoria Nuland United States on Tuesday.
“The next meeting is scheduled for November 14. Our ambassadors will meet with Israeli and Palestinian representatives to try to push the parties to restart direct peace negotiations,” said Dr. Nuland told reporters.
Mediators will read the proposals and concerns of both parties before adopting a joint statement, said the spokesman.
The meeting will take place two weeks after the recognition of Palestine as a full member of UNESCO.
Israel responded to the accession by the acceleration of the settlement of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. According to the press service of the Israeli government, 2,000 new homes will be built in the territories “Palestine”.
The U.S. has meanwhile cut funding from UNESCO, representing 22% of the total budget of the UN agency for culture, following the admission of the Palestinian state.
