The EU rejected the Belgian draft budget for 2012 (Media)

The European Commission has rejected the draft budget for 2012 in Belgium, announced the Belgian media on Friday.

The paper forecasts economic growth of 0.8% of GDP and a deficit of 2.8%. A forecast deemed “too optimistic” by the Community executive.

The Commission considers, in turn, with a growth of 0.8%, the federal deficit would reach 3.1% of GDP.

“In this case, Belgium would be contrary to EU rules that provide for a maximum deficit of 3% for 2012,” said the electronic daily “The Last Time”.

According to media reports, the Belgian authorities do not intend to amend their proposed budget. Di Rupo the government does not accept the Commission’s calculations and estimates that the deficit of 2.8% is perfectly feasible.
