“I am convinced that the Assad regime will soon discover that the force of change is irresistible. (…) It is not clear how this transformation will be completed, but we have no doubt about such an outcome,” said the head of the White House.
For ten months, the Syrian regime faces an unprecedented popular protest. According to UN estimates, the confrontation between protesters and government forces has claimed more than 5,000 dead. Damascus denies this figure and says the country is plagued by gangs financed from abroad.
The United States and other Western countries have repeatedly called on the Syrian president to relinquish power.
