Syria: the CNT ready to send humanitarian aid

The new Libyan authorities are ready to provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people, said Mustapha Abdeljalil, head of the Libyan National Transitional Council quoted by Arab media.

“We will give humanitarian assistance, including medical, the Syrian people,” said M.Abdeljalil after negotiations with a delegation of the Syrian National Council, visiting Libya.

“The Syrians are suffering much more than the Libyan people there shortly,” said M.Abdeljalil.

The CNT, political arm of the Libyan opposition, was recognized as the authority in power in Libya before the fall of Gaddafi.

The formation of the Syrian National Council, the main body of the opposition, was announced Oct. 2, 2011. This coalition of most opponents of the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

Since mid-March 2011, Syria has been rocked by a protest movement against the regime. According to the UN, the suppression of the revolt would have already killed more than 5,400 dead. In addition, nearly 2,000 police and Syrian military were killed by insurgents.
