Syria: demonstrations in support of Bashar al-Assad

On Wednesday hundreds of thousands of Syrians held at the center of Damascus a show of support to the regime of Bashar al-Assad and national unity of the country, reported media correspondent on the spot.

The day of action takes place under the slogan “Long live and party and its leader, our people are one family.”

Grouped on Umayyad Square in the heart of the Syrian capital, demonstrators chanted slogans in favor of national unity and political reforms announced by President Assad.

The activists advocate the settlement of the crisis in Syria since March through negotiations and without external interference.

Among the Syrian flags, float also those of Russia and China, in gratitude for political support from these countries during the vote in the Security Council of the UN.

Demonstrations of support are also held in the governorate of Hassake (north-east).

Since March 15, Syria was shaken by a protest movement against the regime. The opposition and human rights, repression of the popular revolt in Syria by the security forces have already killed more than 3,000 dead. Several Western states have called on President Assad to resign.

For its part, Damascus Official denies that figure and said that nearly 1,500 people, 1,100 soldiers and policemen, were killed by “armed terrorist elements.”

Fearing a repetition of the scenario Libya, China and Russia  opposed, October 4, vetoed the draft resolution on Syria, Moscow rejects any resolution on sanctions.
