The Syrian regime is trying to deceive the international community and it is necessary to exert maximum pressure on President Bashar Assad said a spokesman for the U.S. State Department, Mark Toner during a press conference on Tuesday.
” (…) In my opinion, we see again and again to a dishonest game from Syria with various proposals, attempts dialogue and peaceful resolution, “he said .
“It seems to us that we must put maximum pressure on the regime,” added the spokesman.
Russia recently announced that the Syrian authorities have accepted the initiative to meet the opposition to Moscow for a dialogue.
Since mid-March 2011, Syria was shaken by a protest movement against the regime. According to the UN, the suppression of the revolt would have done more than 5,000 dead. Damascus denies this figure and says the country is plagued by gangs financed from abroad.
