SCO: Karzai calls for investment in Afghan economy.

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai called member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to invest in the Afghan economy on Wednesday.

“Afghanistan has significant mineral resources, their use will allow us to become a major economic center, worldwide. We appreciate Chinese investment in our copper operations. We invite all our friends and partners to follow the example of Beijing and invest in our economy, “he said during an anniversary summit of the SCO held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

“The trade, energy, communications, ways to develop regional integration, Afghanistan is ready to participate in all these areas, ” Karzai continued.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded on June 15, 2001 in Shanghai by leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, Iran, India and Pakistan have observer status of SCO.

Last May, Afghanistan has requested observer status with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
