Philippines / Storm: more than 1,300 dead

The balance of Tropical Storm Washi, which hit the southern Philippines has risen to 1,342 deaths, announced the National Center for Disaster Management quoted by the Western media on Tuesday.

The previous record 1,236 deaths were reported.

On the night of December 16 to 17, Washi storm and torrential rain fell on the island of Mindanao, causing floods. More than 108,000 people fled their homes. 20,000 soldiers were mobilized to participate in relief operations.

Every year the Philippines are facing nearly 20 storms and typhoons during the period June to December.
