Philippines: a tropical storm killed at least 180 people

Tropical Storm Washi, which hit the southern Philippines, killed at least 180 people and over 400 people are missing, the Western media reported on Saturday.

According to Benito Ramos, director of the National Management of the fight against natural disasters, this report could be revised upwards. The previous record of 143 deaths reported.

Washi storm and torrential rains have caused flooding in the south.

The Philippines are facing every year to nearly 20 storms and typhoons in the period from June to December. A tropical storm that struck the Philippine island of Leyte in 1991, about 6000 people were killed on Leyte in floods and landslides triggered by a tropical storm.
