The price of oil will double to $ 250 a barrel if the West is implementing a ban on imports of Iranian oil, said the spokesman of Iranian Foreign Minister Ramin Mehmanparast quoted by international media on Sunday.
“As soon as this issue (the ban on imports of Iranian oil) will be raised for good, the price per barrel of oil exceeds $ 250,” he said in an interview Mehmanparast the weekly Sharq on Sunday.
The foreign ministers of EU member countries have adopted additional sanctions against Tehran on December 1 to prevent it from developing its nuclear program. However, they failed to agree on banning imports of Iranian oil. According to Western media, the countries that call for the embargo believe that this would deprive Tehran of funding needed to develop nuclear weapons.
The United States, Britain, Canada and the EU had already tightened their sanctions against Iran after the recent publication of a report on the Iranian nuclear by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) . According to the report, Tehran has sought to develop nuclear weapons until 2003 and could still pursue these activities. On 18 November, the Board of Governors of the IAEA adopted a resolution calling on Iran to allow IAEA experts to inspect its nuclear sites and to intensify its cooperation with the agency.
