Nuclear: IAEA inspectors arrive in Iran

A delegation of inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived early Sunday to discuss Iran’s nuclear program in the country, announced the Iranian media.

On January 17, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iranian ambassador to the IAEA, said that a delegation from the Agency visit his country “from January 29 to 31 to discuss the issues raised previously by the IAEA.”

As was expected, the delegation is headed by the chief inspectors of the IAEA, the Belgian Herman Nackaerts.

The visit of the IAEA delegation came as it was mentioned in a report in November 2011 a “possible military dimensions” of the Iranian nuclear program.

The publication of this report had led to increased pressure from the U.S. and EU on Iran.

Western countries suspect Iran of seeking to build atomic weapons under cover of its civilian nuclear program that Tehran has always denied.
