More than 1,000 politicians and scientists will attend the international conference Arctic Frontiers, devoted to the energy problems of the Far North, which opened in the Norwegian city of Tromsø on Sunday.
“The Arctic (…) has nearly 22% of the world’s oil and gas. Today, it is crucial to find ways to extract them without harming the environment and ensure the safety of residents of these areas, “said at the opening of the conference the Mayor of Tromsø Jens Johan Hjort.
According to the official, the main objective of the conference is to develop strategies for sustainable development of northern territories are acceptable to all countries bordering the Arctic.
Arctic Frontiers conference will take place all week in the University of Tromsø. It will bring together representatives of Norway, Finland, United States, Canada and Russia. Participants will discuss include renewable energy, the major oil and gas projects, as well as the latest research in the field of energy in the far north.
