Nafissatou Diallo’s lawyers urge DSK to explain the matter during his TV interview

NEW YORK – Lawyers for Nafissatou Diallo, the maid of the Sofitel in Manhattan urged the former head of the IMF to explain the matter in his statement on French television, scheduled for Sunday.

Former Socialist minister will be interviewed by Claire Chazal during the 20 hours of TF1 on Sunday night . This will be his first television interview since the affair which forced him to resign from the general direction of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and give up its ambitions for the presidency in 2012.

After confirmation of the interview, counsel for the American accuser, Kenneth Thompson and Douglas Wigdor, explained Friday that Mr. Strauss-Kahn had to give his version and “respond to specific questions about his behavior.” They recalled that the maid had provided Guinean during interviews to the press last July a detailed account of what would, she said, passed on May 14.

Former Socialist minister returned to France on September 4, American justice has decided Aug. 23 to drop all criminal charges against him. Nafissatou Diallo, whose credibility has been questioned, filed a complaint against him in civil August 8.

“DSK” had been arrested May 14 at the airport in New York while he was on a plane to Paris and charged with sexual assault and attempted rape. Former Economy Minister has always maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty.

After his return to France, Dominique Strauss-Kahn was heard Monday by police in another case. The Paris prosecutor’s office has in fact opened a preliminary inquiry in early July after a complaint by the writer and journalist Tristane Banon, who accused the former Minister of Economy of attempting to rape her in Paris in 2003.
