The prosecutor had earlier said the former head of state had “intended to kill many demonstrators protesting peacefully against the deterioration of their living conditions.”
The trial of former Egyptian leader began in the capital on Wednesday. Hosni Mubarak has been accused of corruption, abuse of power, including illicit enrichment and of incitement to murder against demonstrators during the unrest that took place in Egypt in January.
Hosni Mubarak was ousted Feb. 11 after an unprecedented popular revolt, after three decades at the head of the country. According to an official toll, 846 people died during 18 days of the uprising that led him to resign.
