Japan floods: 15 deaths and leaving 11 more people missing

TOKYO – Floods and mudslides caused by heavy rains Thursday left at least 15 dead and 11 missing in southern Japan.

Local officials, the damage is concentrated in the prefectures of Kumamoto and Oita, located on the island of Kyushu. Most victims are in their seventies and eighties.

Homes were destroyed and tens of thousands of people were evacuated from an area threatened by swollen rivers and mudslides.

The weather also disrupted rail traffic local roads and cut 22,000 private homes electricity.
