Indonesian Soputan volcano erupts

Soputan Indonesian volcano located in the north of the island of Sulawesi, erupted on Sunday morning, a scientist at the volcano’s monitoring post said.

“The volcano erupted this morning. Besides spewing ash and dust particles, it also spewed hot gas but that’s limited to around its crater,” he said.

The source said the volcano has thrown a cloud of ash and gas 6. 000 meters. Volcanologists have announced evacuation is set at a six-kilometre radius around the volcano but there’s only forest in that range.

Soputan is located 2.16 km northeast of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta and last erupted in 2008 with no fatalities recorded.
