India tests ballistic missile

NEW DELHI, June 9

On Thursday India conducted a test firing of Prithvi-II ballistic missile from the Chandipur polygon in Orissa (east), IANS news agency reported.

8.56 meters long, the missile is capable of carrying loads up to one tonne nuclear or conventional. Development was launched in 1983. Eleven years after the missile has been adopted by the army.

Previous tests of Prithvi-II and its marine equivalent Dhanush were conducted in March and have been successful.
