Vatican City – Members of the group of hackers Anonymous said that they have attacked the website of the Vatican yesterday, in response to a variety of topics, ranging from Catholic doctrine assault of children.
The site, www.vatican.va, was inaccessible for most of the afternoon and yesterday evening. A Vatican spokesman confirmed the attack but refused to comment on the origin. He said he didn’t know how long it would take the Vatican’s technicians to bring the site back up. A statement posted yesterday on what is billed as the “official” website for Anonymous in Italy says that the group attacked the Vatican to protest against the execution of heretics, the destruction by fire of books during the Inquisition and, more recently, sexual abuse of children by priests.
