Greece’s Exit from Euro Would Be “Huge Mistake” (Spanish Prime Minister)

The Spanish Prime Minister Mario Rajoy believes that Greece’s exit from euro area would be a “big mistake” and invites the EU to defend all the European currency.

“The departure of Greece in the euro area would be a great mistake, because the euro is a basic project uniting Europe”, told Mr Rajoy reporters after an intervention the Congress of Deputies (lower house of parliament Spanish) on Wednesday.

The Spanish Prime Minister acknowledged that European countries were in an economic situation “very serious”.

“The statements concerning the strict observance of the budget and the need for economic growth, that’s fine. But I wish that all countries within the euro area the international community to give a signal in favor of the euro common, “said the Prime Minister.

Mr Rajoy also said that he maintained permanent contact with European leaders about the situation in Greece.

“In our conversations, I never mentioned the need for urgent financial aid for Spain. Instead, I constantly emphasizes that the Spanish government knows very well what it has to do in this difficult situation” , said the premier.
