The director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano, will visit the nuclear power plant in Fukushima Japan, heavily damaged by the devastating earthquake of March 11, reported the Japanese agency Kyodo on Sunday.
During his visit scheduled for July 25, Mr. Amano is planning to conduct interviews with representatives of the company that manages TEPCO plant accident. The talks will include the development and security of nuclear power in Japan.
Last March, Mr. Amano refused to visit the central Fukushima because of high radiation levels on the site.
Accidents in the central Fukushima-1 after the earthquake and tsunami of March 11 caused more radioactive leaks at the site. The authorities evacuated the population living within 20 km around the plant.
Traces of radioactive iodine and cesium were detected in soil, sea water and foodstuffs.
