Explosion in south-eastern Pakistan, nine dead (agency)

On Friday an explosion occurred in the city of Quetta, capital of Baluchistan (southwest Pakistan), nine dead and 21 wounded, said the AP, referring to a police source.

The agency said it is a suicide car bomb, carried by the house of a local politician, Shafique Mengal. It is unclear whether it was at home at the time of the explosion.

Mr. Mengal was Minister of Petroleum Industry under the chairmanship of Pervez Musharraf.

The agency reports of extremist groups operating in Balochistan. They are demanding  for greater provincial autonomy in Pakistan.
