“I am very happy with the result. We are pleased that not only countries in the euro area, but several other countries have approved the agreement,” Merkel said after the first day of the summit of the EU Brussels.
She says the Baltics, Poland, Romania and Denmark joined the agreement.
The summit participants agreed that the 17 euro zone countries over six states do not share the common currency would reach a new agreement on strengthening fiscal discipline and coordination of economic policy.
However, an agreement in the 27 EU member countries could not be reached.
