EU: macroeconomic imbalances in 12 member countries (Commission)

Twelve EU countries, including France, the UK, Italy and Spain, suffer from major imbalances, with a recurrent deficit of balance of payments, high levels of public and private debts, the housing bubbles, the European Commission reported on Tuesday.

“If necessary, the European Commission will recommend that EU members to adopt appropriate measures to correct the situation or prevent a resurgence of imbalances,” reads the statement said.

The European Commission promised to continue the study of the economic situation in these countries and to analyze it in depth, to alert authorities to their time of need to change economic policy to avoid exposure to further shocks.

According to the EU executive, the economic situation will require further analysis in Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK .
