Electricity: Iranian and European networks will be connected in 2012

The Iranian electricity grid will be connected to the European energy network in 2012, said  the agency ISNA quoted the Iranian executive director of the Iranian Society of production and transmission (TAVANI), Homayoun Haeri on Tuesday.The official did not specify how to connect and neither the volume of electricity trade between Iran and European energy systems.Information on the possible interconnection of Iranian and European were released after the announcement of the forthcoming privatization of Iranian power in early October. The Iranian Deputy Minister of Energy Mohammad Behzad had indicated that about 45 power plants were privatized.

The Iranian authorities also continue to export electricity to Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey. According to Dr. Homayoun Haeri, Baghdad received 100 million kWh in 2011.
