M.Annan left Damascus on Sunday, March 11 after a two-day visit during which he presented to the Syrian president a “series of concrete proposals” to end the bloodshed.
“I saw that all the Syrians were eager to find a solution to the current crisis, and only the Syrians themselves can solve their problems. The objective of the international community is to help them,” said Mr. Annan after his visit to Damascus, quoted by the agency SANA.
Tuesday, March 13, the UN envoy should conduct negotiations with representatives of the Syrian opposition in Turkey.
The French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said that once the Syrian response to proposals M.Annan known, members of the Security Council of the UN would continue “their dialogue to draw the consequences” in a draft resolution on Syria.
