Côte d’Ivoire: elections on December 11

Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire – The Ivorian government announced Thursday that parliamentary elections would be held on December 11.

The country of West Africa held its first presidential election in the last ten years in October 2011 and legislative elections were to follow, but the refusal of the incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo to concede defeat and step down had plunged the country into a political crisis for months.

Under pressure from the international community, Laurent Gbagbo has given way to his rival Alassane Ouattara democratically elected in April.
