Chavez condemns the assassination of Qaddafi

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez praised Gaddafi, calling it a “martyr” in an interview with journalists, reported the Venezuelan television channel Globovision on Friday.

“He (Gaddafi) will always remain for us a great fighter, a revolutionary and a martyr,” Chavez said  during a pilgrimage to Santo Cristo de la Grita (Andes), after his return from Cuba, where he had gone to his cancer treatment on Thursday.

“The saddest part is that in its quest for world domination, the empire and its allies are burning it down,” said the Venezuelan president.

Chavez condemned the “assassination” of Muammar Gaddafi and “outrage over the life.”

“Unfortunately, the death of Qaddafi was confirmed (…). I was talking with Raul Castro. I remember that Raul told me: they will surely kill him,” said the Venezuelan president.

On Thursday, Oct. 20 Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi ousted died as a result of his injuries after being captured by fighters loyal to the new Libyan government when he tried to flee his hometown of Sirte.
