The second round of the presidential election is taking place in Bulgaria, where the candidate of the conservative party in power, Rossen Plevneliev is the favorite, announced the agency Novinite Bulgarian on Sunday.
In the first round, Oct. 23, he received 40.11% of the vote, ahead of more than ten-point socialist rival, Ivaylo Kalfin, who got 28.96%.
The outgoing President Georgi Parvanov is not involved in the race, no longer eligible for reappointment after serving two five-year terms.
The head of state has a more representative role in Bulgaria, the majority of powers are in the hands of the Prime Minister. The President directs foreign policy and held the position of supreme commander of the armed forces.
