Beijing opposes US unilateral sanctions against Iran

Beijing is “opposed to unilateral sanctions” adopted by the U.S. against financial institutions in cooperation with the Central Bank of Iran, foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters on Wednesday.

“China is opposed to a national law prevails over international regulations and imposes unilateral sanctions on other countries,” said the diplomat.

The new measures adopted Saturday by the U.S. Congress plan to allow the U.S. president to freeze the assets of any foreign financial institution that trades with the central bank in the Iranian oil sector.
