Wednesday night into Thursday the gunmen have attacked people celebrating a marriage in the province of Nangarhar (eastern Afghanistan), leaving nine dead and five wounded, spokesman of provincial administration, Ahmad Zia Abdulzaï said to reporters on Thursday.
“Nine people were killed and five others injured last night when armed opposition militants attacked a wedding party in Dur Baba district,” the spokesman said.
He said the groom was a nephew of Chief Administrative Officer of Dur Baba, a district bordering Pakistan. When the marriage was in full swing, the gunmen stormed into the house and opened fire.
Local police have opened an investigation.
The Taliban and other insurgents fighting the Afghan government and international forces who support NATO, often attack, among other targets, officials of local authorities.
