Obama will present a plan of 3 billion for food security in Africa

WASHINGTON – On Friday U.S. President Barack Obama was to announce a new plan of $ 3 billion (about 2.36 billion euros) for the fight against hunger and poverty in Africa.

The initiative, funded by 45 private companies, is an extension of commitments to food security by the United States and other countries.

The White House said that  the plan would focus on agricultural growth and could leave 50 million people out of poverty within a decade.

After presenting the initiative in a speech in Washington, Barack Obama was to visit his home for the summer presidential summit of Heads of State and Government of G8 countries (Canada, Germany, USA, France, Italy, Japan, UK, Russia). Leaders of major industrialized countries were particularly raise the issue of food security with those of four African countries.
