NEW YORK, U.S. – Police wearying helmets and carrying shields evicted protesters with the Occupy Wall Street movement early on Tuesday from the park in New York City’s financial district where they have camped since Sep, dismantling their shelter city and arresting almost 70 persons.
Municipal authorities have told the outraged New York they might return to the park when the cleaning is done, but this time, without tents or sleeping bags.
The police arrived at the park around 1:00 to evacuate at the request of the owner of Zuccotti Park, Brookfield Office Properties. Police officers were equipped with anti-riot and have made 70 arrests.
The evacuation of the park ended around 4:30.
Some protesters angered by the police action came together in two other locations in lower Manhattan.
