Mike Huckabee, Former Arkansas Governor, says he won’t run as a Republican candidate for president in 2012. He stated that he has chosen to remain in his current position as a radio and television host. “All the factors say go, but my heart says no,” said Huckabee on his show. Huckabee says money isn’t a concern, just that his heart isn’t in running. “My answer is clear and firm. I will not seek the Republican nomination for president this year. I’m going to continue gladly doing what I do,” he said. Huckabee feels the decision was very spiritual. He said, “Only when I was alone, in quiet and reflective moments, did I have not only clarity but an inexplicable inner peace. Being president is a job that takes one to the limit of his or her human capacity. For me, to do it apart from the inner confidence that I was undertaking it without God’s full blessing is simply unthinkable.” Mike Huckabee hadn’t been in public office since2007 but says he will continue to help others in their political campaigns.
Huckabee would have had to give up his successful media career if he decided to run for president. He hosts a nationally syndicated radio program and a TV program. Huckabee also gives speeches around the country that he is paid for. It seems he is not willing to give up the life of a celebrity he leads nor the spoils of that life including the $2.2 million beachfront home under construction in Florida. Mike Huckabee is the latest of Republicans to bow out of running for the presidency against President Barack Obama. Other Republicans have decided to opt out also, including Haley Barbour, Mike Pence and John Thune.
