Kanye West big favorite of the 54th Grammy Awards with seven nominations

LOS ANGELES, Calif.. – With no less than seven citations, the R & B star Kanye West prances top nominations for the 54th Grammy Awards ceremony, revealed Wednesday night in Los Angeles.

However, a few surprises, enamelled this announcement. Thus, if Kanye West was nominated for the song “All of the Lights”, on which a host of stars involved, the album is taken as such, “My Beautiful Dark Fantasy,” a critically acclaimed album to its output, is not in the premier class of the album of the year. In addition, six other appointments are all confined to categories related to rap.

Other notable omissions in the major categories, we note the absence of country phenomenon Taylor Swift and that of the veteran crooner Tony Bennett.

On a par with Adele, Bruno Mars and Foo Fighters also get six nominations, including one in the category of album of the year. They are closely followed by Lil Wayne (five citations), followed by critical darling Bon Iver (four nominations). The newcomer to the kindly folk compositions also creates a surprise since it is present in both categories that are prestigious record and song of the year.

But the biggest surprise of the evening effect comes without any doubt the star of “dubstep” Skrillex, who won five nominations, including that of the revelation of the year.

The appointments were announced after the fourth annual concert of the Recording Academy, held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles where there have been several artists doing the favorites, including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj.

The 54th Grammy Awards will take place February 12 in Los Angeles and reward for the first time artists in 78 categories. From 2012, the number of categories will fall from 109 to 78. Some categories will be discontinued, others will be merged or renamed.
