James Whitey Bulger, American mafia gang leader was arrested after 16 years on the run

WASHINGTON- JamesWhiteyBulger, a notorious Boston gangster on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wantedlist. James “Whitey” Bulger, 81, leader of the Winter Hill Gang [Irish gang], after sixteen years on the run. He was arrested by the FBI in Santa Monica, near Los Angeles. He was wanted for his involvement in 19 murder cases.

For the FBI, Bulger became the run of issues: the agency was accused of not really trying to stop and have covered his activities. James Bulger has worked for the federal agency as an informant and was advised of his next arrest by John Connolly Jr., the FBI agent who recruited in the 1970s.
John Connolly Jr. was convicted in 2002 for protecting Bulger and his deputy, Stephen “The Rifleman”, also an FBI informant. James Bulger would have provided the FBI with information about the New England Mob Winter Hill gang rival at a time when the agency was in the fight against organized crime a priority.

Over the years, FBI received many information about Bulger and his girlfriend, Catherine Greig, who were seen in a variety of locations in the United States and Europe, but has never been able to verify the validity of these “pipes”.

Bulger served as a model for the character of Jack Nicholson in the movie “The Departed” by Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and also with Matt Damon. The FBI had offered a reward of 100,000 dollars for information to locate Catherine Greig, and two million for the arrest of Bulger.

His record on the list of the FBI presented him as wanted for a series of murders’ linked to its location at the head of a group of organized crime. ” The group is accused of “controlled extortion, drug trafficking and other illegal activities in the Boston area”, on the east side. Bulger was described as having “a violent and known to have on him a knife at any time.” Bulger and Greig, charged with aiding a fugitive on the run, will be brought to  Los Angeles court on Thursday.
