NEW YORK, NY – Further analyzes are needed to determine the cause of death of Richard Descoings, director of the Institute of Political Studies of Paris, found dead Tuesday in a Manhattan hotel room. An autopsy performed Wednesday failed for now to learn more about his death.
Richard Descoings was discovered naked in his room at the “Michelangelo”, in Manhattan. He was in New York for an international meeting of heads of academic institutions, according to the IEP. A spokesman for the police, Paul Browne, said that there was no suggestion that a crime was committed.
Empty liquor bottles and prescription drugs were found in the room on the seventh floor of the building. There was no sign of forced entry. A laptop and a phone that belonged to the director of “Sciences Po” were found on a ledge on the third floor.
An autopsy Wednesday was not conclusive. The services of the medical examiner confirmed that additional analyzes, including toxicology, will be conducted.
The Director of IEP, aged 53, was to appear Tuesday at a conference at Columbia University. The organizers have contacted the hotel security, seeing that he failed to appear, reported police.
