Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wife has filed for divorce

Maria Shriver, wife of former actor and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, has filed for divorce on Friday, weeks after her husband had admitted to having a child of a domestic worker, it was learned from the superior court of Los Angeles.
Ms. Shriver cites “irreconcilable differences” with her husband, whom she met in 1977 and married in 1986.

Maria Shriver, niece of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, request joint custody of two minor children – Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13 – and payment by her husband’s legal fees and alimony.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, 63, revealed in mid-May he had a child with one of his servants, to explain its separation from Maria Shriver, 55, officially announced a few days earlier, after his wife had left the family home earlier this year.

“After the end of my term as governor, I talked to my wife to this event, which dates back more than a decade,” Mr. Schwarzenegger wrote in a statement sent to the Los Angeles Times.

“I understand and deserves the anger and disappointment of my friends and my family. There is no excuse and I take full responsibility for the trouble I caused,” added the former -Terminator.

“I apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I’m really sorry,” he insisted, asking the media not to disturb his wife and children.

The newspaper had assured Arnold Schwarzenegger had assumed responsibility financially from the start and he continued to financially support the child.

Maria Shriver is the daughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who died in 2009 and sister of the assassinated president John F. Kennedy.

In addition to two boys, they have two daughters: Katherine, 21, and Christina, 19.
