Demonstration of quantum levitation at ASTC

Each year, the ASTC (Association of Science Technology Centers) is a conference where several new and promising technologies are presented. During the 2011 edition, recently completed a demonstration of quantum levitation.

The demonstration in question was performed by residents at the University of Tel Aviv. During the exhibition, the researcher has “trapped” a body in a magnetic field before putting it in motion. The body, a magnet is in a state in the gravitational magnetic field above the superconductor. This kind of demonstration is not entirely new but that of the Israeli academy seems to have a little more compared to previous attempts. Levitating body retains its original position even when in motion.

The research was conducted by Professor Guy Deutscher, an expert in superconductivity. The video, posted on YouTube on October 16 has already been seen more than a million times.
