The Canon EOS750D, latest addition to Canon in the segment of mid-range digital SLR, nothing very exciting. But that’s not its purpose. This model remains above all a safe bet for those looking for a functional and versatile camera.
His picture quality does not rival that of its competitors, but unless you do a side by side comparison, you will not notice. He is entitled to several interesting improvements over previous models: Wi-Fi and a better reactivity for use either in optical viewfinder or via the display. Enough to justify a change for those have a precedent of the range model.
Although their design differs significantly, the 750D and 760D are very close. The 760D is more thought for avid photographers with control panel settings on the hood, a mode dial, a thumb wheel and back button more “qualitative”. 750D is found around 650 euros with a 18-55mm lens. It takes about fifty additional euros for the 760D.
The quality of the photo and video 750D remains good as the lighting is correct. This is not the best in its class, but you do not notice that his shots are slightly less accurate or less detail in shadows and overexposed areas unless you perform a side by side comparison with another device .
Noise is also acceptable, but rather on the tonal range he sins. It is normal to see the concert with increasing noise ISO sensitivity. In the case of the 750D, this occurs on JPEG between 800 and 1600 ISO. Then one sees a noise on the colors that affadissent.
Depending on the lighting, the input stage and screen size on which you plan to view your images, you can go up to ISO 25600 . We begin to lose detail in the black as and as the brightness down. The option Auto Picture Style by default significantly increases the contrast on JPEG in low light so that the shadows become black. But even on RAW, one feels the lack of detail in these conditions compared to other similar devices like the Nikon D5500.
Many consumer cameras have automatic white balance is not neutral. The 750D is no exception in this area and we find ourselves a shade that pulls on the red-orange.
The videos have the same defects in the limited tonal range and the dominant color but they are still very good. In any sufficiently good case for family vacation videos.
Canon has finally improved the performance of this model with a development system 19 AF points instead of 9. It is now very powerful. The 750D proves long enough to start (0.9 seconds to power up, develop and trigger) but very fast for the rest. It needs 0.3 seconds to focus and trigger with good lighting conditions. However, when these deteriorate, the Canon SLR puts a little more time to do the development. Count also 0.3 seconds between two consecutive JPEG or RAW and 1.2 seconds when the flash is activated.
In burst mode, the 750D connects 30 JPEGs at 5 fps. Performance is less satisfactory in RAW. The rate of 6 frames / sec is maintained only for 6 photos whereupon drops to 2.4 frames per second. We can continue this pace slowed beyond 30 photos, the housing does not stop.
Live View, which is to use the LCD screen as a viewfinder, is better than previous models. 0.6 seconds to develop and trigger as strong or weak light and 0.7 seconds for two consecutive JPEG
The multipoint autofocus, which allows the camera decide the focus areas the point seems more “intelligent” than other similar systems because it does not directly choose the nearest object in a scene. But it still suffers from the typical consistency problems all autofocus, that it changes the subject whenever we getting a pre-focus even if it does not move the unit.
Design and functions
The design has changed little from previous models, including at the finish that always makes a little plastic. The layout has been slightly redesigned with a stereo microphone that is positioned on either side of the flash and the addition of an LED for Wi-Fi.
The most significant improvement at the level of the viewfinder in which Canon has finally replaced the AF points ridiculously small by more conventional areas, which makes it much more comfortable to use.
On the left shoulder of the camera is the mode dial with the necessary manual, semi-automatic program. Besides the usual scene modes such as “portrait” and “sport”, it also offers three multi-shooting modes: “Night portrait”, “night scene show of hands” and “HDR backlight control”. The first two combine four shots. As for the latter, it is an HDR mode “classic” that combines four images at different exposures to find details in highlights and shadows.
The creative filters (oil painting effect, watercolor, grainy black and white, soft focus, toy camera, miniature and fisheye) are available in the Creative Auto mode. If you use the LCD screen for shooting, only the image with filter will be saved while you use the viewfinder, JPEG without a filter will be recorded simultaneously.
In addition to the ISO sensitivity adjustment knob , there is now a button to turn on / off the LCD screen and select the type of autofocus.
At the back of the case, are the menu buttons and information on the left of the viewfinder, while the Live View / video record button is positioned right. Next to the thumb rest, one finds AE lock buttons and a second button for selecting the type of autofocus. Unfortunately we can not duplicate reprogram this button. The autofocus has three options: 19 AF points, one single collimator and AF area. To the right of the screen are the exposure compensation buttons and quick settings.
The articulated touchscreen is one of our favorite options to film. It is responsive and offers an intelligent interface with the development of touch and Live View mode. The sunlight legibility is very good. Overall, we can say that the Canon interface is simple and easy to use.
The Japanese brand has replaced its Windows applications and EOS Remote application Canon Camera Connect (Android and iOS). Unlike other cameras, Canon does not display the password on the login screen. We must then exit the menu and go to settings to find what sesame and resume the procedure. And if that does not work the first time, you have to start because the password changes every time. On Android, you can use the NFC feature for quick combination that works very well. Once paired devices, whether Android or iOS, the connection was stable and fast reconnect.
The application itself offers variety quite correct functionality: remote shooting with manual controls, transfer photos to the mobile (RAW are converted to JPEG). However, it suffers from some flaws: not select all the images simultaneously to transfer or deletion, no video mode to record, no pre-development
noted finally that lack. 750D in some pretty popular options such as accelerated mode (time-lapse), multiple exposure, an interval timer, the ability to save custom settings and reprogram the buttons.
The Canon EOS 750D is available with different sets of goals. The Nikon D5500 is a better product with superior picture quality, more expanded features and a higher autonomy. He is also available in several kits, but it’s still a bit more expensive than the Canon. The 750D is a good SLR camera, versatile and perfect for the family photograph. It should satisfy most of its buyers.
