LONDON (Reuters) – On Saturday Blackburn Rovers have won their first game of the season in the league and Arsenal down a bit by winning with a score of 4-3, the Gunners conceded two goals in each of the two halves.
Blackburn, “laggard” of the Premier League before the meeting, held before the end of the matches of the afternoon, the 11th, Arsenal slipping from 12th to the 13th position.
Arsenal opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Ivory Coast and former Lille Gervinho. Fifteen minutes later, the Nigerian international Yakubu Aiyegbeni handed the two teams tied, but the Spaniard Mikel Arteta restored the advantage to the Gunners in the 34th minute.
At the break, the London club was leading 2-1, but back on the lawn, Arsene Wenger’s men were quickly disenchanted with a goal against his camp Alexandre Song that allowed Blackburn to pick up 2-2.
In the 59th minute, Aiyegbeni scored his second goal ten minutes before the French Laurent Koscielny turn away in order to allow his team to lead Rovers 4-2.
An ultimate goal for Arsenal by another French, Yoann Gourcuff, five minutes from the final whistle did not alter the Gunners to cash their third defeat of the season for one win and one draw.
