Olympics 2014: three new disciplines for Sochi

Three new disciplines added to the tests of 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, announced the press service of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) yesterday.

According to the IOC, the ski and snowboard slopestyle, and the parallel slalom snowboard special, will enter the Olympic program. All events are open to men and women.

“These new disciplines are spectacular and attract young audiences,” said IOC President Jacques Rogge.

Last April, the IOC had already added to the program of the 2014 Winter Games women’s ski jumping, team events in figure skating and luge, ski half-pipe (male and female) and the mixed relay biathlon.

In addition, the IOC executive board presented a selection of disciplines that could enter the program of the 2020 Summer Games: softball, karate, roller skating, sport climbing, squash, wushu and wakeboarding. Viewers of the Summer Games in 2020 will not see proofs of bowling, dance sport, surfing and netball.
The final list of sports that will be added to the program of the Summer Games in 2020 will be approved in early 2013.
