NEW YORK, USA – Mark Messier, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame will participate in New York City Marathon next month.

Mark Messier will take on the 42.2 kilometres New York City Marathon challenge on Nov. 6, in the city where as captain of the Rangers in 1994 he helped the club win a first title in 54 years.

Two of his teammates this brigade, Adam Graves and Mike Richter, ran the marathon in recent years.

On Thursday  morning at a ceremony at the Empire State Building,  Messier said that he wanted to be a challenge after reaching the milestone of fifty in January. He also wants to raise awareness and raise money for two causes: the fund for the benefit of children and widows of police officers and firefighters of New York and the Tomorrows Children’s Fund, which helps children with cancer or with serious blood problems.
