The matches of the Euro 2012 football championship in Ukraine will be provided despite threats of boycott and political tension around the country, told reporters the president of the Ukrainian parliament Vladimir Litvin during a press briefing in St. Petersburg .
“I dare say that Euro 2012 will take place regardless of weather, including weather policy,” the official said.
He said the situation surrounding the tournament is far too politicized, particularly in order to distract people from economic problems.
Previously, many European politicians said they would boycott the matches of Euro 2012 football championship in Ukraine because of the situation related to the former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
The games of the finals of Euro 2012 will take place in Poland – in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Poznan, and Ukraine – Kiev, Donetsk, Lvov and Kharkov, from June 8 to July 1, 2012. Euro 2012 is the first sporting event of this magnitude in a post-communist countries since the Summer Olympics in Moscow in 1980 and the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984.
