Bundesliga: Arne Friedrich leaves Wolfsburg

BERLIN (Reuters) – Wolfsburg has terminated the contract of German defender Arne Friedrich, a victim of repeated injuries, announced the Bundesliga club on Monday.

Arne Friedrich, who has 82 caps and was committed a year ago with the German champions in 2009, played only 15 of 40 possible matches since joining the club. His contract ran until 2013. Last year a series of injuries and back surgery forced him to long absences  and in this season.

“He came to us and ask to end his contract,” said coach Felix Magath. “We regret and we wish him good luck for the future.”

Wolfsburg knows an early season half-tone and is 14th in the championship with six points from six matches.
