North Korea has expressed its wish to organize some events of the 2018 Winter Olympics.The South Korean city of Pyeongchang has been awarded the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Western media reported on Wednesday.
“The political and economic relations between the two Koreas are not very good, we must ensure that they are improving,” said the member North Korean International Olympic Committee (IOC), Jang Ung.
In an interview with the South Korean agency Yonhap, Jang Ung said “positive” that Asia hosts the Winter Olympics for the third time.
However, the President of Olympic Committee of South Korea, Yong Sung Park, welcomed the initiative of Pyongyang with caution.
“The Olympics can not be used for political purposes. In addition, we have taken great pains to win the right to host the Olympics,” said South Korean official.
On July 6, the IOC selected Pyeongchang (South Korea) to host the Winter Olympics in 2018, an absolute majority of votes in the first ballot.
