A fifth of students who take a course in college or high school runs the risk of suffering from depression. This proportion is 13% for the overall population.
A study by the University of Leuven relayed Thursday by the newspaper Mediahuis, psychological difficulties often arise from the transition between secondary and higher.
One in seven actually suffering from psychological disorders. A 20 sometimes think about suicide, also reveals the study conducted by Professor Ronny Bruffaerts during the academic year 2012-2013 on thousands of students.
When they arrived at the top, young people are face many challenges, “they feel the pressure to succeed, the familiar structure of secondary disappears, they have to build a social network and learn to study,” said Mr. Bruffaerts
To help students do face their difficulties, KU Leuven created “MindMates”, a project to raise awareness of mental health.
