the scientists studied data from a total of 124 086 people divided in three studies for 24 years. They analyzed the link between weight and consumption of fruits and vegetables rich in flavonoids, which are important sources of antioxidants in our diet.

People with an average age had problems because of weight gain, among others, sleep problems, slower metabolism, hormonal changes, and muscle weight gain . The researchers found a link between higher consumption of flavonoids and balance their weight in these individuals. Some even lost a few kilos, and this, as much in women than in men and in all age groups.

The cranberries seemed to have the most beneficial effect by their high concentration of flavonoids . Besides cranberries, scientists also recommend plums, apples, pears, strawberries, grapes, celery and peppers as giving the most convincing results.

Even a small amount of these fruits and vegetables containing these flavonoids had a positive effect on the weight of the patients. “ One serving per day of fruit can already have a big effect on health ” the scientists conclude. Weight gain after a certain age can indeed cause health problems such as higher blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease.
