Cut salt to prevent stomach cancer

The rate of stomach cancer would decrease if we reduced our consumption of salt in our diet, it said in a report by the World Cancer Research Fund.

According to this non-profit organization, which funds cancer research, 14% of cases of stomach cancer could be prevented by reducing salt intake to the recommended daily amount, less than six grams, which corresponds with a teaspoon.

“Cancer of the stomach is difficult to treat successfully because most cases are not treated before the disease is very present,” said the spokesman for the World Cancer Research Fund, Kate Mendoza.

Only 15% of patients with stomach cancer survive more than five years.
